First Grade News
Religion
We have learned that God created the world and how we need to
take care of all of God’s creations. The
first grade has leaned about the Blessed Trinity and that the Sign of the Cross
is a prayer to the Blessed Trinity. We are
now learning about Jesus and His miracles.
October is the month of the Rosary.
This week we will learn how to pray the Rosary.
This year we have a new reading series, Treasures. The first grade is working very hard on their
reading skills.
We are focusing on the short
vowel sounds and consonant blends. Some
o f the stories we have read are Soccer, Pet Tricks and I
Can! Can You!. The children
love to read.
Math
Math facts are very important in first grade. The children need to know their addition
facts to sums of 12.
They need to know their
subtraction facts subtracting from 12 or less.
Please practice these facts everyday.
Flashcards are great.
Grammar
A sentence is a complete thought. A sentence begins with a capital letter and
ends with an end mark. We work on
writing sentences everyday. The children
must know how to write a sentence. You
can practice writing different types of sentences. We have learned statements, questions and
exclamations.
Social Studies
I enjoyed reading everyone’s explorer report. It was very interesting reading about all the
places the first graders would like to explore and the items they would take
with them. Excellent Job First Grade Explorers!
Science
In Science we are learning about living and non living
things. We are learning what living
things need to survive.
Next, the first grade will
learn about different types of habitats.
