Back to School

Welcome

Your middle school teachers will consist of:

Mrs. Hazard Math and Science

Ms. Fitz. Religion and English

Mrs. Taddeo Social Studies and Reading

We will focus on the 3 R’s: Respect, Responsibility, and Rights.

Students are expected to show proper respect for themselves, their peers, staff, and school property. Students can expect that the teachers will accord them respect as well.

Students must assume responsibility for their own behavior, their schoolwork, class procedures, and all school obligations.

Since students have the right to expect that their teachers maintain a proper learning environment, teachers will assert the right to remove or discipline students who intrude on the learning of others. Students can expect to be treated fairly and to be notified of any behavior that is unacceptable.

Class Procedures

1. Be Prepared - Bring assignment planner, texts, and all materials to class each day.

2. Homework - This is not an option. You must do your homework completely and hand it in on time. Have completed homework readily available. Each completed homework assignment turned in on time is equal to 100%. We will use the three strikes you’re out system:

1st missed homework assignment -automatically 10pts off - one demerit - warning in planner to be signed by parents.

2nd no homework – note in planner - 40 pts off - one demerit.

3rd strike – you’re out - no credit for assignment – after school detention.

Look for assignments on the board.

All math assignments must be done in pencil, all other subjects in pen.

Assume responsibility for make-up work as soon as you return to school after an absence.

3. Written Assignments - All written assignments should be neat and complete. If an assignment is more than two pages it should be typed and proofread.

4. Notes should be taken whenever anything is written on the board pertaining to the subject. Write clearly and neatly in notebooks.

5. Ask Questions – It is your responsibility to ask questions if you do not understand something.

6. Projects will be given out periodically. They are considered a test grade. Project due dates are always given several weeks before they are due. Projects must be ready on time. They must be done neatly and meet the criteria of the project. When working in groups, each student should participate equally.

7. After School Help – I will make myself available for after school for help in math. A schedule will soon follow.

8. Classroom jobs are to be done daily. They will be switched monthly. We all need to work together to make this a great year.

9. Healthy Snacks should be provided each day. No soda or candy will be permitted as a snack. Please limit your snack to something quick to eat and clean up.

10. Uniforms – You must be in full uniform at all times. On gym days, gym uniforms must be worn with sneakers. All other days, full school uniform must be worn. No sneakers or incorrect socks may be worn. Boys must wear belts. Girls must tuck in their blouses. Being out of uniform will result in detention.

11. Family Envelopes will be given out to the oldest child. Please return the empty envelope the next day.

12. Supplies for the classroom will be asked for on occasion. Please bring in one box of tissues and one roll of paper towels to start.

13. Stationery Supplies have been given out. All other supplies must be provided at your expense. Art supplies must be brought in as soon as possible. Calculators for grades 6, 7, & 8 must be brought in as soon as possible. (I have chosen the Texas Instruments Calculator TI-30Xa – carried in staples - $10.00)

14. Test Folders will be given out every Thursday. They MUST be returned the next day. If they are not received by Monday, a detention will be given. Please sign the tests and the folder as well.

15. Detention – will be held on certain days of the week. Detention begins at 2:15 and lasts till 3:15. You will be given one days notice. Detention slips must be signed by a parent. You must provide your own ride home. If no ride can be arranged, you will have to go to after care at your parent’s expense.

Have a positive outlook on life and you will succeed. Believe in yourself!

Be like the Little Engine That Could . . .

I think I can, I think I can!!!

AND YOU WILL!
