Welcome Back to St. Cecilia School. I am
very excited about teaching your children this year and I do look forward
to working with all of you.. Our relationship needs to be a good
partnership so we can work together for the best interest of your
children. I’ve would like to relate my expectations to you. I will keep
you posted on "what’s happening" in Grade 8 via this site. Please refer to
it often and let me know if there is something I can add to it as the year
progresses.
Classroom Expectations: BE
RESPECTFUL and BE RESPONSIBLE. I expect honesty and kindness. Students
should be responsible for their behavior and their schoolwork. They need
to listen in class, participate and ask questions. Becoming an independent
learner is one of our many goals. If a student is having problems with any
work, they need to see the appropriate teacher so we can work out a
resolution.
Attendance: Being here is half the battle.
Students need to make every effort to get to school on time and to be
prepared. If students are ill, it is their responsibility to find out what
they missed (from all teachers) when they return. A homework page will be
posted on this Web site for your convenience.
Homework/Behavior Detention Policy: Three
Strikes You’re Out. Demerits will be given for the following offenses:
misbehavior in class, being out of uniform, missing homework/assignments,
being unprepared for class. Automatic detention will be given for
unreturned test folders, lunchtime behavior problems, not following safety
patrols policies, any acts of vandalism to school or property of others.
While in detention, students will be given an assignment.
Detention are TUESDAYS -2:15-3:15
Spiritual: Please see to it that your child
attends and participates in Sunday Mass. We will go to mass here the first
Friday of each month and I will expect that students participate in Mass
and celebrate the Eucharist. As a class, we will talk a lot about living
our faith. I will have a few community service projects for our class and
I will expect loving Christian behavior from all students.
Breakfast/snacks/Lunch: Please have students
give themselves enough time to eat something for breakfast. You can’t run
a car without gas and our children need fuel to think in the morning.
Healthy snacks are permitted, please no soda or chips.
Communication: This is really the key to a
successful year. Please communicate any of your concerns or questions to
me via note or telephone as soon as possible. I am at school usually until
3-3:30 everyday, unless I have other obligations. You can always call the
school and leave a message, I will call back as soon as I am able.
Reports/Projects: Students will be
asked to do one book report per marking period from the suggested reading
list that will be distributed shortly. They will also be expected to do
one writing assignment a month as part of a creative writing portfolio I
would like to build. There will be projects relating to social studies and
reading which will be posted on the Homework Page as we go along this
year. All short or long term assignments are posted on the blackboard and
will be posted on the web page for your review.
Class Trip/Parties/Dances: I will be
holding a class meeting in early October to discuss some of options that
might be available as an eighth grade trip. As a class we will vote to
select and then I will schedule a Parent’s Meeting to discuss the details.
Class parties for the holidays will be handled by classroom volunteers. I
would appreciate knowing your plans before the party. Dances are scheduled
for 11/5, 2/11, 4/29 and 5/20. Your help is needed.
Yearbook Meetings: Will start next month,
also. Wednesdays 2:15 - 3:15 students must be willing to
work and be able to get a ride home from school.
Reading: I will certainly try to instill a
love of reading. I do insist that all students have a book that they will
enjoy reading in their spare time in their desks at all times. Books may
be signed out from my bookshelf and/or borrowed from the library.
Eighth Grade is a very busy year. I hope you will
take some time to enjoy your son or daughter before they begin their next
adventure into high school. Most importantly we all need to think
positive, to create a loving and secure environment, and we need to work
together to make this the best year yet.
Thank You and God Bless You. Mrs. Taddeo
