Dear Parents/Guardians:
We will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week beginning Sunday, January 29th. The theme this year is Catholic Schools: Faith. Academics. Service. At St. Cecilia School, we offer academic excellence in a nurturing Christian environment; preparing today’s children to become tomorrow’s leaders. During Catholic Schools Week, we celebrate the wonderful students, faculty, and school we have here at St. Cecilia.
Catholic Schools Week will begin with a special Mass on Sunday, January 29th at 9:15am at St. Cecilia Church. I ask that students attend Mass in their school uniforms to represent our school. Following Mass, there will be an Open House from 10:00am – 12:30pm. If you know of a family that is interested in St. Cecilia School, please invite them to attend. Don’t forget about our tuition incentive program. If you recommend St. Cecilia School to another family and they register here, you will get $350.00 off your tuition. The new family must mention your name when they register. Please help us spread the good news about St. Cecilia School and welcome new families to our school. Registration for the 2012-2013 school year for current families will begin during Catholic Schools Week. Registration packets will be sent home in your family folders.
On Monday, January 30th, we will be having a “Service Day” during which the students will be working on a school wide service project. The students will be making blankets for Project Linus. Project Linus is named after Charles Schulz’s character from the PEANUTS comic strip who was comforted by his blanket. Project Linus distributes blankets across the United States to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. On January 30th, students in kindergarten through eighth grade will be gathering in Powers Hall at 12:30pm to make these blankets. Our pre-k students will also be participating in the project. The material for the blankets we will be making has already been purchased. We are asking that each student bring in $5.00 as a donation to cover the costs of the material. Also, if there are any parents who would like to assist with this project, please let your child’s teacher know.
Tuesday, January 31st will be “Our Nation Day.” Students are invited to dress down in red, white and blue. During the day, students will make cards for members of the armed forces. Wednesday, February 1st will be “Buddy Day.” Students will have an opportunity during the day to meet up with their buddies for an activity. Also, the typing contest for finalists in grades 4 & 5 will be held at 2:30pm. Thursday, February 2nd will be “Student Day.” Students will have double gym periods and no homework will be assigned. The typing contest for finalists in grades 6, 7, & 8 will be held at 2:30pm. On Friday, February 3rd, there will be a school Mass at 8:00am for students in pre-k 4 through eighth grade. All families are welcome to attend. At 10:00am, we will have “M&M Bingo” for pre-k 4 through eighth grade.
I look forward to a wonderful Catholic Schools Week during which we can celebrate everything that makes St. Cecilia School so special. Thank you for your support of St. Cecilia School.
Sincerely,
Ann Mitchell
