RULES FOR INSIDE PLAYING

  1. First floor students play first and then eat lunch.

  2. After lunch an aide or teacher accompanies students to their classrooms. No class may leave the lunchroom without supervision.

  3. Once they are in the classroom for playtime, students are not allowed to leave for any reason, including ice cream, visit with parents or to go to another classroom.

  4. Inside play requires inside voices.

  5. There is NO RUNNING.

  6. Students should find constructive play during inside recess. Board games, cards, puzzles, and whatever can be done while seated are acceptable.

  7. If there is a parent who allows the children to play "Simon Says" or another group game this is also a good thing.

  8. Ball playing is not allowed in the classrooms during recess unless an aide monitors the play.

  9. No food from the lunchroom is allowed in the classroom.

  10. THE CLASSROOM TEACHER MUST APPROVE all CDs or Tapes BEFORE RECESS. Teachers are to make a note on the board with the name of the student and selection that was approved by them. Initial your approval.

  11. BATHROOM PRIVILEGES: Permission to use the bathroom may be granted by the lunch aide. Only ONE student at a time may be excused.

RULES FOR OUTSIDE PLAYING

Students from the first floor line up IN THE FIRST FLOOR CORRIDOR at 11: 25. When all are assembled, the field aides will accompany them to the field. Children leave by way of the front door by the office and will return after their playtime by means of the same door. Field Aides will bring the students down from the field. Students will pick up their lunches and proceed to the lunchroom. They will wait in line to enter at the door leading to the APR.

  1. Eighth Graders take the Cones and Toy Bags outside at 11: 25 a.m. All toys must be returned to the sport bags before students line up. Everyone is responsible to clean up the toys they play with. Eighth graders help by bringing the bags up and down, but they should not have to pick up after anyone.

  2. Only toys in the sports bags may be used at the field during lunch. Individuals may not bring up toys or balls to the field unless S. Marie Elise has given previous permission.

  3. All students must walk (not run) up and down from the field always staying to their right hand side.

  4. Grade 3 plays in the area to the right of the ball field. Grade 2 plays in the area next to the ball field and fence. Grade 1 play in the area by the entrance and over to the fence.

  5. When playing the students must obey the Aide. If a child throws someone to the ground they are to stand by the fence until the recess period is over. If a child is seen pushing, punching or anything of that nature they are to be given the same punishment. Aides have that authority. The School has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY, and hurting others is not acceptable.

  6. If the Aide thinks it is necessary to report-the incident to the principal, please do so. I will handle these infractions after lunch.

  7. When the siren sounds, the children should FREEZE in place, stop talking and listen. The children are then told over the bullhorn to line up behind one of the Aides. This Aide will bring the children down to the lunchroom. No student may go ahead of the Aide.

  8. Once the children are in the lunchroom, the Aids will return to the field to monitor the older students.

  9. Students are to listen while being instructed by the Aides. Parents who help supervise during this time are taking the place of a teacher. Students must respect them. They are to listen to them. Never talk back to them or make them feel as if they are annoyed with them. If this happens, the Field Aides should send the students to S. Marie Elise who will make a decision as to the type of punishment that is given.

  10. Designated play fields are given to the 4th through 8th graders. They are to stay in their own area for their own safety. They alternate using the ball field. Touch Football may be played assuming that the student stops when touched. No one may hang on to another. Never is tackling allowed. If the Aide observes this, the student is to be told to stand by the fence until recess is over.

  11. The 8th graders have the privilege of using the hockey field or sit on the bleachers outside of the playing area.

  12. NEVER SHOULD A STUDENT OF ANY AGE BE ALLOWED TO COME UP OR GO BACK TO SCHOOL UNSUPERVISED.

  13. Injuries or illness must be reported to the lunch/field aides. If a child is hurt and should not be moved, please send for the nurse. In an emergency, get to the parent with the bullhorn and call 911 in the cell phone. If a child needs to see the nurse when they return to school, a pass will be issued on the field to students who require attention. Only those students who have been issued a pass will be allowed a visit to the nurse. Never visit the nurse without a pass. All other students are to report directly to your homeroom teacher.

  14. Grades 4 and 5 return to school through the side door by the parking lot entrance into the APR and proceed up the stairs.

  15. Grades 6, 7 and 8 return to their classroom by way of the door nearest the Main Office and up the front stairs.

  16. Following the rules will make for a safe and happy lunch period.
