Immunization
Requirements
- Measles -One dose administered on or after
the first birthday, a second dose is required prior to entry
to Kindergarten, preferable and MMR is given for the second
dose (Measles, Mumps and Rubella).
- Rubella -One dose administered on or after
the first birthday.
- Mumps -One dose administered on or after the
first birthday.
- DTP -A minimum of 4 doses with the 4th given
after the 4th birthday.
- OPV -A minimum of 3 doses with the 3rd dose
given on or after the 4th birthday.
- HIB -(meningitis) -Children under the age of
54 months of age attending a preschool, must have received the
appropriate number of doses of the HIB vaccine. This vaccine
has different schedules depending on the type of vaccine used
and when the child started the series. The child must have had
at least one dose of HIB between the 12th and 15th month of
age depending on the type of vaccine used. If you are in
question, whether your child is up to date on this vaccine
speak with your pediatrician. HIB series is required for entry
into Pre-K.
- Hepatitis B VACCINE -Effective September 1,
2001 - Regulations state that all children born on or after
January 1, 1996 and entering kindergarten or first grade are
required to receive three (3) doses of Hepatitis B Vaccine.
The Hepatitis B series of three vaccines is also required for
all children born on or after January 1, 1990 and entering
grade six (6).
- If your child has not received the necessary
doses of Hepatitis B Vaccine, please contact your child's
health care provider. This series of vaccine takes six months
to complete.
- The school nurse will inform
and update parents of requirements required by the State of
New Jersey and the Department of Health.

Policy
on Administration of Medication
- St. Cecilia School strongly discourages the
administration of either prescription or non-prescription
medication in school or on field trips. However, if it is
absolutely essential that a student receive medication while
under school supervision, the following procedures
apply:
- A parent/guardian should come to the
school to personally administer the medication.
- Parents of students with serious health
considerations should make every attempt to attend field
trips.
- The school nurse or principal/secretary
will supervise the students taking medication ONLY under
the following conditions:
- The medication must be given to the
school nurse or principal/secretary by the
parent/guardian.
- The medication must be in the
original pharmacy labeled container with doctor’s
orders for the medication to be taken during school
time.
- The parent/guardian and student’s
physician must complete and sign an “Authorization
to Administer Medication in School” form.
This form is available from school.
- No medicine may be kept in the
classroom.
- Students will be permitted to
self-administer medication only for life threatening
illnesses or conditions. The parent/guardian must
schedule a conference with the school nurse to discuss
in detail the need for medication. The parent/guardian
and the student’s physician must complete and sign
an “Authorization for
Self-Administration of Medication in School”
form. This form is available from the school.

Emergency
Procedures
- When a child becomes ill in school, the parents
will be notified. It is the parents’ responsibility to see
that the student is taken from school and given proper care. Parents
must come to the school office for their child. They may not go
to the classroom.
- Parents are required to complete an EMERGENCY
CARD with their address, telephone numbers both at home
and at work, as well as two local adults who can be reached in
case the parents are unavailable. If emergency information is
changed in any way, parents are required to contact the school
immediately.
