Religious Education
The religious education program encourages students to spread the
message of Jesus Christ by word and deed. The students are taught to
love and respect themselves and others. They learn to appreciate their
own individuality. They are taught to recognize the rights of others.
This philosophy challenges students to improve the world by sharing
gospel values and living Christ's message of salvation. They grow to
understand the roots of their faith and responsibilities as Christians.
Students learn to live their faith through active participation in
religious education classes, sacramental instruction, and participation
in Eucharistic liturgies.
Academic Curriculum
Academic excellence is a
hallmark of St. Cecilia School and is reflected by the comprehensive
curriculum endorsed by the Paterson Diocese School Board and accredited
by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The K-8
educational program includes religion, language arts, mathematics,
science and social studies, as well as foreign language, library, art,
music, physical education, and computer instruction. This innovative
curriculum is enhanced by state-of-the-art computer technology available
in the computer lab and in every classroom.
Co Curricular Activities
St. Cecilia School envelops a
child in an educational environment filled with love and concern that
extends beyond the classroom. Programs help foster a strong sense of
community among the students, the home, and the Church. A variety of
choices is offered to reflect the uniqueness of each student and creates
a spirit of cooperation.
Student Government allows
students to take an active role in organizing special school events and
promotes the development of leadership skills.
The children participate in a
Buddy Program. Older students are paired with younger students under the
supervision of the teachers. This mutually beneficial relationship
generates emotional ties among students in the school community.
The third grade students
participate in an inter-generational program called "Enrichment by
Wisdom." The grand-friends are members of the church community.
They meet one afternoon each month to create a craft, share a snack, and
spend some time together.
Students in grades four
through eight have the opportunity to enroll in the Future Musicians
instrumental program. Music lessons are offered once a week during the
school day.
Community service projects
include making food baskets for local families and collecting food for
local soup kitchens. The St. Jude Hospital Math-a-Thon is held annually
and proceeds go directly to cancer research for children. Students
participate in Tag Days (also known as "KIDS for KIDS") and
the money collected goes to children in need.
After school programs are
important components of the total learning experience. The programs
include Choir, Drama Club, Forensics, Math Club, Algebra Club, Computer
Club, School Newspaper, and Yearbook.
Participation is encouraged in
extra-curricular activities such as altar serving, scouting, and CYO
basketball.
