Welcome to St. Cecilia School
St.
Cecilia School is a Pre K-3 through Grade Eight Roman Catholic
Elementary School. It has been in existence since 1958 in the
Diocese of Paterson, under the educational leadership of the Sisters
of Christian Charity.
St. Cecilia
School expresses faith experience to its students through the
teachings of Jesus Christ who taught with authority, but in a spirit
of peace, love, and joy. This educational process provides
necessary academic knowledge and skills enabling each student to
develop as an individual who is responsible and accountable for
his/her actions. The school strives to make the students conscious
of the need for social justice, enabling them to grow in Christian
self-awareness. As the student grows in Christian self-awareness,
the school broadens that concept to include peer relationships and
the community. Celebrations of prayer and the Eucharist enrich the
school community so that the students focus on themselves and yet
are challenged to reach out to society. Such an experience of
Christian community leads to service. The school strives to guide
the conscience and promotes conduct that responds to the call for
social justice.
A child’s
intellectual development is promoted by various sequential
experiences as well as an inner self-discipline which creates an
atmosphere conducive to learning. In the primary grades, much is
learned through the use of manipulatives, actual concrete
experiences, and reinforcement through educational technology. As a
child advances, greater emphasis is placed on subject content. In
the upper grades, the learning accentuates the logical and realistic
approach to problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making
skills. Internet resources offer additional academic information
and support. Through these methods students are challenged to work
to their full potential and are given greater opportunities to both
advance and succeed.
St. Cecilia
School guides the individual student through the various stages of
personal development and facilitates the transition by helping them
form a positive self-image. The student learns the body is a gift
from God, which must be nurtured and developed to effect a
productive and meaningful life. Throughout this process the
student’s self-image is elevated through positive reinforcement as
he/she continues to make the transformation to mature Christians.
St. Cecilia School facilitates social development so that the
individual student can interact appropriately with peers, the
Christian community, the local community, and the worldwide
community. By involving the parents in the life of the school, the
home and the classroom mutually support each other in strengthening
the virtues of discipline, respect, honesty, and social
responsibility.
Our Mission is
to show Jesus to our students, teach them to trust in God, and lead
them to act responsibly. We reflect the words and actions of Christ
so that our children will realize their potential and uniqueness.
In our Christian community we care for, encourage, and educate with
kindness the children entrusted to our care. Through our patience
and love each child must feel accepted for who he or she is, a
genuine image of God. |
